Iman Syuhada Bt Abdullah has been a prominent figure in the Malaysian tennis scene since she was 10 years old. She has retained her No.1 ranking through the years as she progressed from the U10 to U14 age groups, racking up over 60 wins during tournaments. She hopes to continue this momentum and strives to become a top 15 player in the WTA.

Abdullah reveals that her interest was piqued after watching Serena Williams defeat Victoria Azarenka in a thrilling three set match at the US Open finals in 2013. She decided then that she wanted to learn tennis and become a professional tennis player.

Abdullah wants to share her passion with others and hopes to increase the presence of tennis in Malaysia, increasing the participation rates and making it a more accessible sport. She believes that she can do that by achieving success on court, which will increase awareness of the sport and get more Malaysians interested in trying tennis.

“Getting the call from the coach to inform me that I was selected to participate in the WTA Future Stars event was a dream come true,” says Abudullah. “I’m going to cherish my time there and use it to reach my goals.”

“I was at a loss for words when I hit the final winner to win my match and qualify for the WTA Future Stars event. I really wanted to win and worked so hard preparing for the qualifiers,” Hannah Yip told the WTA Finals team.

Yip acknowledged that the qualifiers were not easy, and she was pitted against many other talented and formidable opponents. She took every match in stride and enjoyed the different challenges presented by each of her opponents.

Yip attributes her success mainly to hard work, which she has learnt the importance of from her tennis idol, Li Na. She believes that Li Na demonstrates that no matter your background, if one works hard, no goals are unachievable.

Looking towards the future, Yip hopes to leverage on her success in tennis to clinch an athletic scholarship in the United States. She knows that the WTA Future Stars event will be pivotal in helping her advance as a tennis player and is looking forward to the event.

“I’ll be really attentive during the workshops and be open to new experiences during the event! I’ll do anything to improve on my tennis,” Yip said.

The WTA Finals team wishes both Abdullah and Yip the best in their preparation for the WTA Future Stars event in Singapore!
