WTA Future Stars Junior Race To Singapore: Vietnam Qualifiers

The WTA Future Stars tournament is held yearly in conjunction with the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. As part of the program, top U14 and U16 female tennis players from the Asia-Pacific region are provided valuable experiences and exclusive insight into the world of professional women's tennis.

The Junior Race to Singapore led us to Vietnam as we determined our U14 and U16 qualifiers. Le Thao Han and Nguyen Thi Mai Huong emerged champions in their respective categories, walking away with a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent their nation at the WTA Future Stars event this October.

"I cannot be happier! Being able to represent my country in such a big event like the WTA Future Stars was beyond my expectations when I started playing tennis" said Le, to the WTA Finals team.

Le, the 2016 U12 singles champion at Vietnam’s National Junior Tournament, started playing tennis because of her cousins. Growing up watching them play at national events inspired her to follow in their steps. Eventually, when the time was right, she picked up a racket too and the rest was history.

One of the things she loves most about tennis is her ability to travel and meet new people. She enjoys making new friends and learning new things from them. One day, she aims to be the No.1 ranking player in Vietnam and crack the Top 500 in the world.

A big dreamer and go-getter, Le hopes to have as many wins as she can this October at the WTA Future Stars event. She could not contain her excitement when she told the WTA Finals team that she is looking forward to experiencing the environment of professional tennis, being where the greatest 8 female players in the world are. When asked who her favorite player was, she did not hesitate at all when she said Maria Sharapova.

"I love watching her play on court and how she fights when she’s being pushed to the edge" Le said with a smile.

Coincidentally, Nguyen picked Sharapova as her favorite player on the WTA tour as well! Sharapova's hardwork and dedication towards the sport of tennis has made a deep impact on her, and inspired her to be the best tennis player she can be.

Nguyen got into the sport of tennis on recommendation of her coach, who is still working with her. She enjoys traveling the world for competition and making friends from all walks of life. The feeling she gets from winning matches is what keeps her going at the sport.

"I am very excited to take part in the WTA Future Stars event! I am practicing hard and putting in everything I can during practice to get the best possible result in Singapore," says Nguyen.

The No. 1 ranked U16 player in Vietnam hopes that one day, she will be ranked No.1 in Vietnam and Top 1000 in the WTA rankings. Nguyen cannot wait to play against some of the best talents in the region at the WTA Future Stars event this October.

The WTA Finals team would like to congratulate Le and Nguyen for qualifying for the WTA Future Stars event this October and wish them both the very best of luck in their training in the coming months.
