WTA Future Stars Friday: A series introducing you to the WTA Future Stars qualifiers. This week, we look at the qualifiers from Korea, Hyeseo Shin and Dayeon Back.

Hyeseo Shin, U14 qualifier from Korea for the WTA Future Stars 2016 tournament.

Meet Hyeseo Shin, the U14 qualifier from Korea for the WTA Future Stars 2016 tournament. Born in Seoul, Korea, Shin holds a national U14 rank of No.6. She made the Finals in 2016 National Junior Tennis Championships (U14) and won both Singles and Doubles at the 2016 Korean Students Tennis Championships. Shin’s biggest aspiration is to become a national tennis player, representing Korea in many more tournaments.


The WTA Finals team had a Q&A with Shin. Here’s what she said:

Who is your favorite WTA player and why?
Shin: Serena Williams is my best WTA player. It is because she is always good at focusing on her games with her strong mentality.

What is the most interesting place you have visited and why?
Shin: Singapore is a great city with many things to see and do.

What do you love about playing tennis?
Shin: It always makes me happy. I like sports and tennis is the best sports to enjoy.

How and why did you start to play tennis?
I watched a match between Nadal and Federer and it was really cool. This was why I started tennis.

How do you feel about qualifying for WTA Future Stars and representing your country?
It is a chance for me to see some of my favorite WTA players. I am very proud of myself.

What do you hope to learn about and experience while you participate in the WTA Finals in Singapore?
I want to see how other players from different countries can play and find the way for me to learn new skills.

Do you have a special story to share?
I wish I could practice once with Serena Williams.

 

Dayeon Back

Dayeon Back, U16 qualifier from Korea for the WTA Future Stars 2016 tournament.

Now representing Korea in the U16 category, Dayeon Back is returning to the WTA Future Stars tournament after her U14 debut in 2015. Back is the current U18 Korean No. 25. She has won the 2016 National Junior Tennis Championships (U16) and the Korean Students Tennis Championships (U16). Like Shin, Back’s greatest tennis dream is to become a national tennis player and to represent Korea in tournaments. Outside of tennis, Back enjoys swimming although she only learnt how to swim just a year ago.


The WTA Finals team had a Q&A with Shin. Here’s what she said:


Who is your favorite WTA player and why?
My favorite player on the WTA circuit is Serena Williams. It is because quality of her play is very stable for long time.

What is the most interesting place you have visited and why?
Jeju Island is my favorite place to visit. Its beautiful scenery and kind people always make me happy.

What do you love about playing tennis?
I really love it because I am good at it. Also, I can improve myself by competing with others.

How and why did you start to play tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was an elementary school student. My mom saw me running in physical education class and I was told I would become a good tennis player.

How do you feel about qualifying for the WTA Future Stars and representing your country?
I am really excited to participate in WTA Future Stars and coming to Singapore. It is a great honor for me to visit Singapore for the second time and it will be a great chance for me to improve myself.

What do you hope to learn about and experience while you participate in the WTA Finals in Singapore?
I would learn that preparation is very important. Only prepared people can be successful, and this special tournament will tell me the result of my endeavor.

Do you have any special story to share?
It was almost impossible to win the title when I was an elementary school girl. However, now I have some experiences of winning the tournaments and I am pretty confident about this tournament.
