Hey everyone, it's Karman. Remember me?
You might have seen me in Singapore two years ago. I played in the first WTA Future Stars tournament in 2014, where the top girls from all over Asia-Pacific gathered to compete alongside the world’s greatest eight players at the WTA Finals
Since my win at the WTA Future Stars in the U16 category in Singapore, I’ve continued my travels around the world competing, working hard to climb the rankings and pursuing my tennis dream. I’ve gone on to compete in the junior events of Australian Open, French Open and US Open, and I'll soon be completing my Grand Slam experience as I head to Wimbledon!
As much as I can’t wait to play at the All-England Club, my friends at the WTA gave me another reason to be excited – an invite to the Pre-Wimbledon Party! It’s the hottest tennis party of the summer, where the top stars of the game glam up, and enjoy an evening of great food and company, before we head to SW19. Who could say no to that?!
So I was the first to arrive at the party – hah! I was clearly the most excited one about the party.
It all began at the fan area. The players get dropped off at the start of a long purple carpet, greeted by the happy faces of enthusiastic kids who had been patiently waiting to get some photos and autographs.
It was there where I met Melissa Pine, Tournament Director of the WTA Finals, who kindly offered to show me around the party.
We walked down the long stretch of purple carpet, passing by lines of photographers and media, and we found ice cream! It was a rainy day but who could resist some yummy Häagen-Dazs ice cream?
Once we reached the other end of the carpet, we took the elevator up to the roof gardens, where the heart of the party was. The decorations and the atmosphere at the gardens were beautiful and the view from the building was stunning. I was walking around and was lucky to have bumped into Caroline Garcia!
Just as I thought my night couldn’t get any better, I got to meet Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Sorana Cirstea, and Roberta Vinci – who photo bombed us from beyond a glass panel! This photo is definitely going to be one that I will never forget.
I then headed to the food and helped myself to the delectable spread. The dining selection at the party was marvellous as expected and I really had to muster up some strong will to stay away from repeated servings of my favourite treats.
Just a while later, I met Angelique Kerber, Australian Open 2016 Champion.
After 5 hours at the party, I decided to call it a night. After all, I will have a long day of training ahead of me. It has been yet another wonderful memory in my tennis journey and I know if I work hard enough, there will be plenty more to come.
So thank you WTA for inviting me and I can’t wait to share more of my tennis adventures!
Till next time,
